
Christening Outfits
The Anglican church grew from its mother the Church of England and includes the Episcopal Church in the United States. It views itself as the 'unbroken continuation of the initial apostolic and later medieval' "universal church", rather than as a 'new formation'. Numberless of the early traditions are therefore the same as the Roman Catholic and the family heirloom long white gown is still used by frequent families. The coincident church allows for much diversity, but ordinarily the clothing is still white for the infant or boyish child.
A baggy variety of practices are found in the spectrum of Protestantism. Some main-stream Protestant churches practice infant baptism, and thus make appropriateness of the christening gown; while others encourage or use aloof adult baptism. In some of Christening Outfits the Josephites churches, special white clothing may be worn by both the head being baptized and the person performing the baptism.
